At the end of this year, Dave and Cathy are finishing up in Adelaide and starting a new role. After considering different student ministry jobs around the world, including across Australia, they have accepted new roles with AFES in Brisbane, as requested by the AFES National Director.
Dave will take up the position of Regional Director for Queensland and Northern Territory, and together Dave and Cathy will seek to train, mentor and encourage the staff already working within the region, and well as work on further networking, strategies for planting new groups, recruiting additional staff, and so on. They will both be involved in pioneering new ministries to international students, in Brisbane and beyond.
This is a strategic move, because the northern regional of Australia now has 10 universities, with a Uni student population nearing 250,000. There is a vast field for the Gospel to be sown, and they feel that the region is "ripe for great Gospel growth".
AFES is also allowing Dave and Cathy to give one month each year to student ministry work overseas. This will allow them to continue visiting international students in their home countries, which is valuable for understanding how to effectively equip returning students, and also follow up individuals. Some of this time will also be used to training, mentoring and encouraging the staff of other movements, such as the IFES work in Slovenia.
Will you help Dave and Cathy to continue in this valuable and strategic work?
